A Day in the Life of PR

• Writing – this is a large part of the work undertaken by PR. The writing may be for press releases, advertisements, shareholder reports, annual reports, speeches, newsletters, booklets, articles and features.
• Special events – these may include exhibitions, celebrations, conferences, open days, award programs, in fact anything which will gain attention positive media attention for your client.
• Media relations – a large part of the job of a PR is to develop and maintain good working relationships with the media.
• Evaluation and research – this is the first thing which you need to do for any new clients. Fact gathering and analysis are an important part of PR work.

Pathways to Careers in Public Relations

There is no guaranteed path which you can follow for careers in public relations, although most candidates do tend to be university graduates. If you are extremely persistent you may find an opening without such an education, but will probably need to start right at the bottom of the ladder, and with a little luck, be allowed to progress through the office by showing just what you’re made of.
